What I'm Reading
Notable Links about Books
In the spring semester, I (Val Sloan) am teaching a seminar all about books. It's called "Books, the life and love of…" and looks at the 'book' from all angles – history, ethics, human behavior, aesthetics, science, and of course literature (books about books). To prepare, I am reading (and listening) to as many books that may be relevant to the course so that I can assign and be able to speak and respond to students by the end of January thru Mid-May. Since I'm reading so many titles that are interesting, I thought I'd start this book club to connect with others with a similar passion and joy, love of reading. At the end of the semester, I will be managing my artist retreat center full time and hosting weekend book retreats for people who want to connect in person, discuss a selected title and then learn more about books while making your own. Contact me for more info.
Each month I will curate the next book in a series in hopes to make interesting connections. Eventually the book club will expand beyond the titles but there are so many good ones, jump on and off the bandwagon as often as you would like.
On my other list of reading material is this recently published work by Elizabeth Gilbert who speaks about living a creative life. As I have time to integrate other unique reading materials I will add comments to the review section of this blog.
